What is lighting design?

Category:

【概要内容】Lighting involves the use of various light sources to illuminate work and living spaces or individual objects. Lighting that utilizes sunlight and skylight is referred to as “natural lighting,” while lighting that relies on artificial light sources is called “artificial lighting.” The primary purpose of lighting is to ensure adequate visibility and to create a comfortable, pleasant environment. Interior design lighting entails the professional planning and specification of lighting parameters—such as illumination levels, color temperature, and color rendering index—for diverse architectural settings.

Lighting involves the use of various light sources to illuminate work and living spaces or individual objects. When sunlight and skylight are utilized, this is referred to as “natural lighting”; when artificial light sources are employed, it is called “artificial lighting.” The primary purpose of lighting is to create good visibility and a comfortable, pleasant environment. Interior design lighting entails the professional planning of illumination, color temperature, color rendering index, and other factors for diverse architectural settings. It must not only meet the requirements for indoor “brightness” but also play a role in shaping the environment and atmosphere. Typically, the interior architect sets the requirements, while the electrical engineer performs the calculations and adjustments. Lighting can also refer to the state of being illuminated by light or to the act of illuminating through movement. In filmmaking, the use of natural or artificial light is an art form that encompasses the operation of lighting equipment, lighting design, scene layout, lighting placement, lighting ratios, the determination of tone and lighting effects, and the treatment of light within the frame—essential tools for the cinematographer’s creative process (see Film Styling Art, Film Lighting). Lighting design should be human-centered, yet safety and practicality must come first, along with clear considerations of lighting requirements, installation methods, and maintenance procedures; only when these prerequisites are met, combined with human creativity, can a truly effective lighting design be achieved. In exploring the concept of “light,” lighting design can draw on relevant literature pertaining to Jurassic lighting. Lighting uses artificial or natural light to provide adequate illumination for general purposes (general lighting), or to ensure clear identification (road lighting, advertising signs, etc.), to emphasize specific features (architectural lighting, accent lighting, etc.), or to create a comfortable lighting environment (residential lighting, etc.), to evoke a particular atmosphere (commercial stage lighting), and for other specialized applications (biochemical research, medical treatments, plant cultivation, etc.). Lighting methods can be categorized as general lighting, zoned general lighting, local lighting, and mixed lighting. The principles governing their application are as follows: first, when local lighting is unsuitable or mixed lighting would be impractical, general lighting is the appropriate choice; second, when a work area requires brightness levels higher than those provided by general lighting, zoned general lighting may be used; third, where high brightness is required but the density of workstations is low and installing only general lighting would be inefficient, mixed lighting is preferable; fourth, local lighting should not be installed within the workplace itself.
